<p>
I run <a href="https://github.com/tess1o/geopulse">geopulse</a>
and log my
current position to it using <a href="https://gpslogger.app/">gpslogger</a>.
while the details might change i always want something like this: a way to
know where i've been at any given point in time.
</p>
<p>
Some years ago i was gifted a map which would have you scratch out countries
you had visited. I wanted something like that, but digital and ideally created
automatically.
</p>
<p>
Since I had an upcoming trip to Japan, my goal was simple: setup enough of a
system to turn my gps logs into "unlocked prefectures".

<h2>challenge 2: get the gps logs from gepulse</h2>
<p>
geopulse is at the core an instance of <a href="https://postgis.net/">postgis</a>
and Java service + frontend. I just have to connect to the database and select
mytime window of logs to process.

I use <a href="#geopandas">geopandas</a>
for the spatial calculations and
process the final result into <a href="#protomaps">pmtiles</a>
using
